Jamb 2017 Exam: Military to deploy troops in flash points

1>>The Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board has formed a synergy
with the Nigerian Army to secure the
Computer Based Test centres in the
forthcoming Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examination .
Already, the Chief of Army Staff , Lt . Gen.
Tukur Buratai , has promised to “ deploy
troop for more surveillance and protection
during the period stated for the 2017
UTME ” , especially in the Niger Delta and
North East .
Consequently , he has directed the Chief of
Training and Operations in the Nigerian
Army to liaise with officers and men on
ground to strengthen the security of the
CBT centres and officials, particularly
those in turbulent states .
Under the synergy that would ensure a
hitch- free 2017 UTME , soldiers will be
deployed to areas prone to violence ,
including the Niger Delta and the three
states in North East which have been
under the grip of Boko Haram insurgents
and other security challenges .
JAMB said that about 1 . 237 million
candidates had already submitted their
applications for the 2017 UTME , while it
had commenced “ collaboration with
Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas to airlift
candidates in riverine areas to their CBT
centres . ”
A statement issued in Abuja on Thursday
by the spokesperson of JAMB , Dr . Fabian
Benjamin , said the synergy came into
effect during a courtesy call on the COASi
by the Registrar and Chief Executive of
JAMB , Prof . Is- haq Oloyede .
He said , “ The Registrar of JAMB , Prof .
Is- haq Oloyede at a meeting with the
military high command in Abuja , solicited
for the intervention and cooperation of the
Nigerian Army in the forthcoming UTME .
While listing some security - challenged
areas like North East , South - South ,
among others, Oloyede said that the
process of seeking admission through the
conduct of examination should not be
truncated .
“ The sight of security presence during the
examination would give the candidates a
high level of satisfaction and confidence
particularly in turbulent areas . ”
The JAMB CEO informed the COAS that the
2017 UTME would be capturing 10 fingers
of candidates to forestall multiple
registration as noticed with previous
registration executes .
According to him , JAMB also insisted on
profile creation and other processes to
strengthen the education data and ensure
that candidates do not go through hell
years after graduating from tertiary
institutions.
He commended the Nigerian Army for
uniting the country, particularly the feat it
recorded in the insurgency war and
restoring peace in other turbulent areas .
“ We are also here to thank you for the
wonderful job you have been doing , all
Nigerians are happy with you for the
wonderful feat you have recorded in the
discharge of your duties , and your quest
for an indivisible and united country, ” he
said .
