Gunmen Abduct Rev Father, Pastor, Lecturer in Kogi

The presiding Priest of Saint Micheal Catholic Church Obajana, Reverend Father Leo Michael and a pastor have been abducted in Kogi State by unidentified gunmen.

The priest was allegedly abducted on Wednesday night at Irepeni village in Adavi Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Similarly, a yet to be identified pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), was also abducted on the same spot on his way to Okene while a lecturer with the Kogi State College of Education, Technical, Kabba, Mr. Samuel Babatunde, who teaches chemistry in the school was kidnapped along Okene Kabba road.

THISDAY yesterday reliably gathered that the lecturer has not collected his salaries since Governor Yahaya Bello took over the government three years ago.

According to Bishop Peter Adinoyi, the Diocesan Chancellor of Lokoja Diocese, the abductors came from the bush near the Irepeni village, very close to an army road block and dragged down Reverend Micheal and one other person believed to be a pastor with RCCG and sped off into the bush, abandoning the two vehicles parked along the road.

The bishop stated that the abductors have established contact with some members of the Church, adding that they have brought down the ransom from N50 million to N8 million, threatening to wait for the worst if their demand is not met before 1p.m thursday.
He noted that the Department of State Services (DSS) and the army have swung into action to track down the perpetrators.

He lamented that abduction is mostly targeted at the poor people, stressing that by now the insecurity of lives and property would have been improved but it got worsened by the day.

The bishop called on the government to quickly address the ugly situation to prevent the country becoming a failed state.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Willam Ayah, confirmed the abduction of the reverend father but said he was not aware of the abduction of the other pastor and a lecturer and the pastor.
