Vitafoam, Berger Paints Reward Creativity among Pupils

A total of 20 pupils from various primary schools in Lagos State were recently rewarded by Vitafoam Nigeria Plc and Berger Paints for their creativity at the just concluded PillowArt Competition sponsored by both companies.

The primary three pupils were asked to design plain white throw pillows to qualify for the final of the competition. The top five contenders were made to answer questions about colours, lay beds, and compete jointly with their mothers in a quiz at the event held in Lagos.

At the end of the contest, a pupil of the University of Lagos Women Society Nursery and Primary School, Lois Akere emerged the overall winner and received a complete bed (bedframe, mattress and soft furnishings). Her bedroom at home will also be painted by Berger Paint.

Iyioluwa Oredola of Grace School, Gbagada came second and got a sofa bed and pillow; while Serah Opute of Emerald School, Gbagada came third and was rewarded with a Vitababy sofa bed.

Precious Onwubiko of Basil School, Ilupeju came fourth, while Jessica Orabuchi of Straitgate School, Magodo was fifth; they got baby cot mats, chairs, flexi mats, among others.

The pupils that came from sixth to 20th position got consolation prizes from over 200 products donated by Vitafoam. The schools that produced the first three winners also got crèche furnishings from Vitafoam; while Berger Paint will paint a crèche and another room of choice for them.

Home and You Furniture donated a television set to the winner and gave out prizes such as lap desks, storage boxes and wall decorations to other participants, teachers and head teachers.

In his remarks, the Group Managing Director, Vitafoam, Mr. Taiwo Adeniyi said the competition was organised to encourage the young ones to be creative as it is the only thing that can stand them out in any field of human endeavour apart from making them familiar with Vitafoam’s products at early stage.

Adeniyi explained that as a creative company that believes in catching them young, Vitafoam has a wide range of products designed to meet the needs of nursing mothers and children.

“It is believed that one of the things affecting intelligence of children is early weaning. Many of our nursing mothers opt for early weaning of children because of inconveniences of breastfeeding in the public. We introduced early days products to address many challenges in this regard.

For instance, we have breastfeeding cover to assist nursing mothers in the public. We also have kids mat, kids chairs, storage wooden baby cot, robust wooden baby cot nursing pillow, maternity pillow, pregnancy pillow pack and sofa bed and spring mattress among others.”

The Marketing Manager, Berger Paint, Mrs. Funmi Lawal explained that the company’s involvement in the competition was in line with its nature of business which has to do with colour and creativity.

“Young ones are naturally endowed with creative power, but the way to harness this potential is by creating opportunities for them to showcase their talent. This is one of the ways by which Berger Paints can give back to the society. The mind of children has great ideas. We have a duty to develop it.”

The founder of the NGO that organised the competition, I-Create Club, Mrs. Eniola Afolayan said the competition was fun and all about creativity, which must be inculcated in children.

A parent, Mrs. Kehinde Akins commended the organisers, saying that the competition enabled the pupils to think out of the box.
