What is better than being a popular DJ and dropping your fourth album (not mixtape, please) ? It is, having access to all the popular arts, around.

Spinall wanted something short, that’s worth the $9.99 on iTunes (of course) and that will make sense. “Iyanu” is fifty shades of that.

With Davido, Wizkid, Kizz Daniel, Burna Boy, Tek and more, what else does DJ Spinall need to make the album a hit?

Stamina (Ft. Ceeza, C Natty)

Once you push play on the Afrobeat-heavy “Stamina” which features StarBoy Ceeza, and Tribe II artiste, C Natty, two things come to your head.

One is, “this is a banger,” while that is still in your head, you hear shabbalistica, and you think Killertunes is mad!

C Natty be sounding like Wizkid, back in ’09, tho. Ceeza, too. Spinall wants ’em Wiz clones!

Can’t Help Myself (Ft. Wurld)

Having this guy, Wurld on a song means you’re in for some foreign joint. And that’s exactly what Top Boy got here.

A funky afro-EDM instrumental, by the way. Wurld‘s voice is really soothing. I can’t help myself, either.

Serious (Ft. Burna Boy)

This one serious. Burna Boy in with the energy. Talking about when he recorded Gba Gbe E.

“Burna, DJ Spinall dangerous, ain’t nobody come close to us.” The trap interlude issa killer!

Baby Girl (Ft. Tekno)

First dancehall vibe on the album. It’s a real Tekno-type beat, reminiscent of songs like “GO” and “Samantha.”

“When you push it, girl your body reboot it,” Tekno is something else, lyrically.

No Wo (Ft. Wizkid)

Almost feels like you’ve not heard it before, playing it on this album. Killertunes is crazy, afterall.

The tempo of the album has increased, and it’s getting ‘dancehall-sy’ already. “No Wo” is a jam, no wonder it was a big hit.

Try For You (Ft. Nonso Amadi)

Coming in at just 02:33, it’s the shortest song on “Iyanu” A party jam from Nonso? OK, let’s bang this. A song for the moonlit Friday nights.

Your DJ (Ft. Davido)

It’s still pon pon. Spinall actually got OBO on a jam. Davido’s shouting, really. Not too lyrical.

Baba (Ft. Kizz Daniel)

A pre-released single. May turn out to be the biggest single from the album, tho.  Sheybi you want banger to banger? Spinall na ogbologbo!

Omoge (Ft. Dotman)

Dotman has really earned himself a top spot in this crowded industry. DJ Spinall now features him.

“Omoge” is cool, and ending the album with it is great. Dotman did a great job, alongside Ckay.

Takeaway:-

DJ Spinall is not an artist, so it’s a no-brainer that he can’t control the narrative of the songs on the album.

But he can control the narrative on how they are hyped.

I think, with “Iyanu” Spinall is getting to a stage where he goes to a show, say like GidiFest and plays for like two hours, and all the songs he played will be his songs.

He’s one of the few DJ’s actually chopping the Khaled Money!
