The national female U-17 football team, the Black Maidens, had the best of starts to the 2018 Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup, which is currently ongoing in the South American country of Uruguay.
Facing the hosts in their opening game, our ladies were unfazed and spanked Uruguay by an impressive 5-0 scoreline.
Ably headed by coach Adotey, the young ladies were impressive all game, dominating and completely overawing the Uruguayan team who could not handle the pace, power and trickery of Ghana’s Black Maidens.
Captain Mukarama Abdulai hit a hattrick, with Fuseina Mumuni and Millot Pokuaa providing the other goals.

The game provided Ghana with an impressive opening win, sending her top of Group A ahead of New Zealand, who beat Finland 1-0 in the other group game.
The Black Maidens are back in action Friday when they take on the U-17 women’s team of the Nordic nation of Finland.
